The Nvidia In-game Overlay is an Nvidia GeForce Experience cover interface placed on top of other programs. Many graphics apps and voice chat apps generate overlays to improve your user experience, particularly while gaming.

When you play a game, the NVIDIA GeForce Experience overlay appears as a mini toolbar. You can access the main features of the GeForce Experience app via the overlay.

Although there are many advantages, the app consumes bandwidth and can cause compatibility issues with specific programs. In this case, it's better to disable the overlay.

How to Disable Nvidia in-Game Overlay

  1. Right-click on the Nvidia system tray icon and click NVIDIA GeForce Experience.
  2. Sign in to your NVIDIA account.
  3. On the top right, click the Settings icon (gear).
  4. Turn off IN-GAME OVERLAY in the GENERAL tab and exit.

  4. Turn off the Open/close share overlay.

The notification will no longer appear when you launch a game in the future.

How to disable GeForce Experience

The overlay settings are usually re-enabled automatically after a driver update, so in some cases, it is better to remove the GeForce Experience software completely.

Remove GeForce Experience

  1. Go Start and click Settings.
  2. Click Apps and search for Nvidia GeForce Experience.
  3. Select Nvidia GeForce Experience and click Uninstall.

Prevent the installation of GeForce Experience

If you have a new PC and you haven't installed the video driver yet, you can prevent Nvidia from installing the GeForce Experience software.

  1. Download and run the Nvidia driver installer.
  2. Choose custom, and uncheck GeForce Experience.
  3. Install the video driver.

The bottom line

Although Nvidia GeForce Experience provides a lot of benefits, it's sometimes better to remove the experience altogether. What are your experiences with the GeForce Experience overlay?
